A FATHER and two teenage sons were issued with warnings after being caught using two off-road motorbikes on common land.

West Yorkshire Police were called to Esholt Woods on Sunday following reports from the public.

The area of land is prohibited for such use and is signposted at a number of locations to advise any potential users.

The land is used by recreational walkers, horse riders and off-road cyclists.

A police spokesman said: "A father and two teenage sons were spoken to regarding the illegal off road use.

"All three were given warnings under section 59 Police Reform Act 2002 for anti-social off road use.

"The adult was also issued with a fixed penalty notice for the illegal use and all advised not to use the land again or risk having the bikes confiscated and a possible summons to court.

“We receive a number of calls with regards to this location for anti-social off-road use of bikes and quad bikes.

"The signs clearly state that there is no provision for such use.

"Startling a horse or colliding with a dog walker or cyclist are just a few reasons why there is no permission for access.

"Damage caused by such vehicles and the noise nuisance are also factors for the prohibition.

"Please don’t be tempted to break the law and risk a fine or a vehicle seizure."
