A BRADFORD beauty spot where CCTV cameras were reportedly installed in a bid to deter fly-tippers is still being blighted by lorry loads of rubbish, residents say.

A pile of industrial waste dumped in Heaton Woods last week is yet to be cleared, the latest in a series of incidents in the area.

Concerns have also been raised about rubbish and building waste piling up for more than two weeks on land near the Bull Royd Lane allotments in Girlington.

John George, 63, who has lived on Shay Close near Heaton Woods for 30 years, appeared to have been successful in his bid to have CCTV installed when the council agreed to the measure in July last year.

After an initial lull, he says the problem has now returned, with no confirmation that the CCTV was ever introduced.

“Once again we have been blighted by fly-tippers who think they can dump their rubbish anywhere with total impunity and disregard to the community,” he said.

“I was assured that CCTV cameras had been installed to capture such activities, but I’ve had no confirmation, despite asking several times.

“This latest episode is a truck-load of material, it’s industrial-scale.

“I am very disappointed with what’s happening, to such an extent that we are seriously considering putting our house up for sale, enough is enough.”

A spokesman for Bradford Council would not confirm whether CCTV was operational in the woods, stating: “We do not disclose the location of covert CCTV cameras.”

Ann-Marie Duxbury, whose house overlooks the land off Bull Royd Lane, said she had initially been told the rubbish dumped there, including household waste such as doors and carpets, would be removed by the council within two days.

She said that promise was then changed after the authority disputed the ownership of the land.

“It is a constant problem, I’ve had to contact the council about five times in the past year alone,” she said.

“It gives the impression that people around here don’t care and that things like this are okay.

“This latest lot looks like an entire house renovation.

“It’s just a horrible thing to have to look at.”

A council spokesman said: “As soon as the responsibility for the land is established, Bradford Council will take appropriate action.”
