A FORMER concierge who retired after 50 years at The Caledonian Hotel in Edinburgh was given a send-off in style as management renamed a suite in his honour.

Billy Garioch, 65, pictured with head doorman Danny Fair, joined the hotel – then the Princes Street railway station hotel – as a 15-year-old page boy looking to fill a few months before he began an apprenticeship and ended up staying with the establishment until he retired earlier this year.

One of the hotel's fifth floor suites will now be renamed the Billy Garioch Suite. General manager Dale MacPhee said: "Billy became one of the most memorable parts of the hotel." Picture: Julie Howden
