RECYLING unwanted clothes and shoes has raised £54,000 for a charity.
The money will help people who Cancer Support Bradford & Airedale offers practical and emotional support to.
The organisation started collecting clothes at the end of 2010 and the latest sweep of its clothing banks took the amount raised by the scheme over £50,000.
Fundraiser Linda Enderby said: “Lack of finances is an issue for many people but they still want to give.
“We began our partnership with Recycling Solutions Limited in November 2010 and to date the clothing banks have generated an income of £54,000.”
The clothing is collected, sorted and recycled and Cancer Support receives a percentage of the value.
The charity said 240 people had already benefitted from the clothing banks over the past four years as it costed £225 to provide a holistic package to support a person affected by cancer.
