A CANDLELIT vigil is being held in City Park tomorrow in memory of the children and teachers killed in the Pakistan school massacre.

The sombre event, at 7pm, will also see the Pakistani flag flown at half mast in Centenary Square and 141 balloons released in memory of all those who lost their lives in the Taliban attack on the school in Peshawar.

The vigil has been organised by community activists.

One of the organisers, Arshad Ali, said: "It's just a solidarity event where people of all faiths and none, who are disgusted by this horrific massacre by the Taliban, can come and share thoughts and prayers with the parents and families of the victims."

Another organiser, Asif Khan, said the Taliban attack had been "inhuman, barbaric and cowardly".

He said: "My mum is from Peshawar. Everybody is just numb and shocked. They don't know what to say or what to do."

Meanwhile, the Bradford Council for Mosques has asked all its affiliated mosques to have collections for the affected families.

Mohammed Rafiq Sehgal, the president of the Council for Mosques, said they were "appalled by the scale and brutality of these atrocities" and urged the authorities in Pakistan to bring those behind the attack to justice.

And a former Lord Mayor is calling on all local schools to hold a minute's silence during their assemblies tomorrow in memory of the victims.

Councillor Khadim Hussain (Lab, Keighley Central) said: "We need to send a message from the district to the people of Pakistan."
