COLLECTION tins at the Fleece Inn pub in Pudsey have helped raise nearly £13,000 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

The pub was honoured by the fast air response service at its annual Recognition Awards at Aspire in Leeds, and was hosted by charity patron and ITV presenter Gaynor Barnes.

Others honoured on the night included the Sayers family from Otley, whose daughter Katharine became a volunteer for the charity four years ago after seeing the helicopter attend a road accident.

Her parents Gerry and Roger have joined her and the family work tirelessly for the charity.

The YAA has to raise £9,990 every day to keep its two helicopters flying. It receives no direct Government funding and the only help the charity receives is through the secondment of its paramedics from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust.
