POLICE were today hunting a driver who fled the scene of road smash leaving one of his passengers critically ill and another with serious injuries.

The crash happened shortly after 11am in Gilpin Street in the Barkerend area of Bradford when a Volkswagen Golf hit a wall and parked vehicle.

As a result two occupants of the car were hurt but a third man, who is understood to have been driving, fled the scene and was still being sought by police.

People in the area said the car involved appeared to have been travelling at high speed before the collision.

One eye-witness told the Telegraph & Argus he had tried to convince the driver of the car to stay at the scene, but said he flagged down a silver Volkswagen and was driven away.

“The car must have been doing 70 or 80 miles an hour easily. It hit a speed bump and flew into the air.

“There were no other cars chasing them, they were by themselves.

“I tried to talk to the driver, but he just got in another car and it drove off.

“You could see the other two men were injured.”
