AN ANNUAL night-time walk is adding sparkle to fundraising at a hospice in the district.

The Manorlands Sue Ryder hospice, in Oxenhope, near Keighley, stages its popular Starlight Hike next Saturday, September 20.

Among those preparing to take part is a team of women dubbed The Lynnettes.

The 10-strong group is walking in memory of Lynn Crangle, who was cared for at Manorlands. She died last year.

Daughters Nicola Crawshaw and Becky Stokes are among the hikers.

"We wanted to take part to remember mum and it’s great that all our friends are doing it with us too," said Nicola.

"We’re going to walk the route dressed as Smurfs and hope to raise as much money as possible for Manorlands."

The Starlight Hike starts and finishes at Oxenhope Park and follows a 10km route.

Drinks and refreshments will be provided at the halfway point and walkers will return via a 'starlight avenue' in the hospice grounds.

Participants will receive goody bags and bacon sandwiches at the finish.

Manorlands fundraiser, Hayley Ibbotson, said: "It’s great to see such a motivated group of girls as The Lynnettes come together and take part in the event to raise funds for the hospice.

"Every day we need to raise £5,000 to continue to run our services, so we rely heavily on the local community getting involved in events like the Starlight Hike and raising sponsorship for us.

"It’s going to be a fantastic night and we’re really looking forward to it."
