AIREDALE Hospital hosted an event to thank its hundreds of volunteers.

The lunchtime event in a marquee at the Steeton hospital allowed staff to pay tribute to more than 350 people who volunteer in various roles.

Matron Denise Todd and Sister Julie Blackburn gave talks about the hospital’s new endoscopy unit, and thanked the volunteers for the new equipment they had bought for the department.

Airedale NHS Foundation Trust chief executive Bridget Fletcher and chairman Michael Luger officially thanked the volunteers for the commitment they showed to the hospital.

Bridget Fletcher said: “Our army of volunteers dedicate an enormous number of hours of their free time to support the hospital.

“We are very grateful and can never thank them enough for the work they do for us.”

Eileen Proud, chairman of Friends of Airedale, said it was good to see so many management representatives there to say thank you in person.

All of the volunteers belong to either Friends of Airedale or Airedale New Venture, two charities that support and run shops in the hospital.

Volunteers provide help with 35 different activities at Airedale Hospital.

Anyone wishing to volunteer at the hospital should call voluntary services manager Gurmit Jauhal on 01535 295316 or e-mail gurmit.jauhal@anhst.nhs.uk.
