THREE inspirational volunteers working with a Bradford Street Life project have been nominated in this year's Telegraph & Argus Community Stars Awards.

Sara Jagger who is a Bradford Council warden at the Harris Street cleansing depot said ShanimFellows, Marion Smith and Natasha Fellows all deserved to be recognised for the motivation and dedication they give to their community.

She has nominated all of them them in the volunteers category for giving up their free time to work with Lottery-funded Street Life - a project bringing residents together to tackle environmental issues on their street and encouraging them to take more ownership for where they live making it a nice place.

Even though ShanimFellows has now moved out of the area, she still comes back every day organising community cafes and community clean-up sessions also managing to get youngsters involved in tidying and looking after their local park.

Marion Smith attends and leads residents' meetings, plans events including a women's group and encourages safe play for children and promotes healthy eating.

"Marion is highly motivated, she is non-judgemental and treats everyone the same. She is assertive and supportive at the same time, caring about the area she lives in."

Young mum Natasha Fellows, who got involved in the project through her friends Marion and Shanim, has a skill at getting youngsters to being creative.

Miss Jagger added: "She is always at the street cafes and encouraging children to make things, letting them know anything is possible if you put your mind to it."

The Community Stars Awards are being organised by the T&A and the Council to ensure unsung groups and individuals are rewarded for efforts in their neighbourhoods.

Nominations, which must be received by Monday, September 8, will be whittled down by a panel of judges before a shortlist goes to public vote.

Winners will be announced at a ceremony at City Hall on December 8, where they will each be presented with the prestigious Bradford Medal.
