A primary school in Low Moor will bid a fond farewell to its headteacher of over 20 years.

Virginia Hartley, head of Low Moor CofE School, has been teaching in schools throughout the district since 1978, and settled in her role in the Park House Road school 22 years ago.

She said the highlight of her time at the school was two years ago, when Ofsted inspectors deemed it "outstanding" in all areas - the top rating for a school.

Mrs Hartley, from Cullingworth, said: "I've been really happy here. There have been challenges, but it is very fulfilling. I've been privileged to work here with quality staff, governors and lovely children who have supportive parents."

She said schooling had changed "drastically" in her time at Low Moor, adding: "When I came here it was only a first school, only taking pupils up to the age of nine. In 2002 it became a full primary school. There were no computers when I came, now we have a multi media suite. It is always changing in education, sometimes big changes sometimes little changes. You have to look at all these changes and decide what is going to benefit the children most."

Current deputy head Yvonne Broadbent will take over in September.
