A CRICKET coach from Bradford has completed his own Tour by cycling to all cricket clubs in the Bradford League in an effort to raise money for Yorkshire Cancer Research.

Pete Brooke decided to take on the Grand Depart-inspired challenge in memory of his parents, who both died from cancer.

The 45-year-old completed the 80 mile challenge with friends Jonathan Stowe and Kevin Holdsworth, and also raised money for East Bierley Cricket Club juniors.

Mr Brooke, who works for Lloyds Banking Group in Halifax, lost his mother, Norma, to pancreatic cancer over Christmas 2010, and his father Lawrie passed away in December 2013 after suffering from blood cancer myeloma.

He had already completed a number of fundraising challenges in his parents' memory, including a coast-to-coast bike rise in 2011, the Great Yorkshire Bike Ride for Yorkshire Cancer Research in 2012, and the National Three Peaks Challenge last year.

He said: “My mum and dad had always been great cricket fans and had supported East Bierley Cricket Club around the Bradford League for many years, so it seemed fitting to take on the challenge in their memory.

"I’m also a huge fan of the Tour de France, and in the spirit of the fantastic Yorkshire Grand Depart, I nicknamed the fundraiser ‘Le Tour de Bradford League’."

Mr Brooke, who manages the East Bierley Under 13s team and also coaches the Gomersal and Cleckheaton Under 13s football team, has so far raised £430 for Yorkshire Cancer Research. With a target of £500 he set off from East Bierley last month and cycled to all 25 cricket clubs in the league and one that joins next year - taking in just over 80 miles. The aim was to leave the cricket club as the first ball was bowled at 1pm and make it round all 26 league clubs and back again before the 2nd XI game was over.
