PUPILS at Laisterdyke Business and Enterprise College are enjoying a week where they get to experience much more than their regular curriculum.

The school is in the middle of its Learning and Rewards week, when pupils of all year groups step out of the classroom to try taking part in events as varied as work experience with multi-national companies to gardening.

And one of the activities that pupils got to take part in was a visit by educational charity Prison? Me? No Way! The group visits schools to help steer young people from a life of crime, and teach them the causes and consequences of crime. During their visit to Laisterdyke, former prisoners who have turned their lives around spoke about prison life. Pupils also learned about personal safety and the dangers of drugs.

Other pupils took photos and notes about the various events, which will be published as part of a school newsletter at the end of the week.

Year 10s enjoyed work experience at BT and Incommunities, while other major employers came to the school to give careers advice to pupils. Year 7s are enjoying a week of skills based learning, much of it outside the classroom environment.
