A MAN accused of damaging gravestones failed to turn up to court today because he was at the Glastonbury music festival.
Michael Colgan, 28, of Tong Street, Bradford, was due to appear at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates' Court accused of causing £1,000 of damage to headstones at a Bradford cemetery.
But his mother wrote to the court to say her son could not attend because he was at the festival instead.
Her letter, read to the court, said: "He should be at court tomorrow but he cannot attend as he has gone to Glastonbury with friends."
It went on to say he had not explained this to the police earlier because "he could not think straight because of the stress and mental health problems".
It said: "I will make sure that he does attend on the next occasion."
The court heard that Glastonbury had finished on Sunday.
Chairman of the magistrates, Andrew Eastell, took a dim view of the excuse and issued a warrant for Colgan's arrest.
