A nod to history as new mural is created in Saltaire park

VISITORS to Roberts Park, Saltaire, will be greeted with a striking new reminder of the village's history - thanks to pupils at a nearby school.

Students at Titus Salt School worked with Baildon artist Tim Curtis to create a new mural in the park's play area. The pupils came up with the design, which features the World Heritage site village's founder and school's namesake Titus Salt holding the village in his hand.

The wall has been painted graffiti style over the past week.

The project was a partnership between Bradford Council's parks department, ward councillors and the village's World Heritage site officer Helen Thornton.

Heather Graham, creative projects manager at the school, said: "The artist came into the school and worked with pupils on designing ideas - the design came completely from the students. It has been a great educational project.

"It faces the Baildon entrance to the park, and at the moment when people get off the bus they won't know they are about to step into a world heritage site. This will be great for letting people know where they are and what's here."
