Up to 100 jobs could be created if plans to transform supermarket group Morrisons’ old offices and warehouse site at Thornton Road, Bradford, into a new retail site get planning permission.

The company wants to build six retail and leisure units, saying there is already some interest from national companies, with the prospect of up to 100 new jobs if the scheme is allowed to proceed.

It has yet to submit a planning application to Bradford Council and before that, a public exhibition will be held for the public to examine their proposals, with Morrisons staff and highways experts present to answer questions.

Morrisons asset manager, John Robson said: “We are delighted to be investing in a historic Morrisons site, which will not only redevelop this site but also improve the wider Girlington District Centre through new public realm and pedestrian links.

“We are keen to regenerate this important site and create up to 100 local jobs in the process, along with more than 100 more jobs during construction. We look forward to sharing our plans with the local community and hearing people’s thoughts to our proposals.”

Full details of the scheme will be on display at a public exhibition to be held on Thursday, June 12 from 4pm until 8pm at the existing Morrisons Store, Victoria Shopping Centre.
