Pub customers have raised almost £1,000 to support cystic fibrosis patients at a charity event organised just weeks after a new landlady moved in.

Kerry Bateman took over the Quarry Gap in Dick Lane, Tyersal, four weeks ago and wanted to raise money for cystic fibrosis as a relative is affected by the condition.

She was able to recruit X Factor finalist Sami Brookes and her appearance left the pub full to capacity.

In total the day raised £960 after other earlier activities and Kerry is now hoping to arrange a similar event to support Marie Curie Cancer Care.

“I am originally from this area and we are trying to bring a sense of community back,” she said.
