A haul of heroin, crack cocaine and cocaine with a potential street value of more than £5.5 million was found at a flat in Bradford, a crown court jury heard yesterday.

Police raided an apartment in Lister Court, Cunliffe Road, Manningham, in February last year and found “industrial quantities” of heroin, Bradford Crown Court was told.

Prosecutor David Hall said 29.8 kilograms of heroin – at varying levels of purity – was discovered, as well as 78 grams of cocaine and £116,000 worth of crack cocaine.

Officers arrested four men – Mohammed Dawood Aslam, Naveed Ahmed, Hamayan Nawaz and Samir Ali – at the scene. Five other men were arrested at later dates.

Yesterday, the trial of Ahmed, 31, of Byron Street, Barkerend, Jamal Mahroof, 23, of Karam Close, Barkerend, Bradford, and Bilal Mulla, 29, of Shan Street, Bradford, got underway.

They are charged with conspiracy to supply class A drugs.

Ali, 22, of Maidstone Street, Bradford Moor, Nawaz, 24, of Carrington Street, Bradford Moor, Mohammed Masood Aslam, 26, of Ederoyd Mount, Pudsey, Mohammed Azam Yaqoob, 45, of Dewsbury, and Mohammed Khan, of Manchester, have all pleaded guilty to the charge. They will be sentenced at the end of the trial.

The ninth man – Mohammed Dawood Aslam, 35, of Hudson View, Wyke – has a police warrant out for his arrest after he failed to show up at court.

Yesterday, the court heard an outline of the prosecution’s case from Mr Hall.

He said police began a surveillance operation tracking movements and mobile phone activity on January 29 last year.

Their observations tracked the men around Bradford and to Harrogate, Barnsley, Wakefield and Manchester – where courier Khan was – and noted numerous phone calls and texts, as well as visits to the flat at Lister Court and trips to shops to buy food mixers and plastic containers.

The operation continued up until 11pm on February 12 last year, when officers raided the Lister Court flat.

Police yesterday released an appeal for information about the whereabouts of Mohammed Dawood Aslam, the brother of Mohammed Masood Aslam.

Detective Chief Inspector Warren Stevenson said: “A warrant for Aslam’s arrest was issued by the court and it is important that we quickly trace this man, ensuring that he faces justice.

“He is from the local area and it is possible that he is residing somewhere within the Bradford district. If you have any information contact the non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”
