Organisers of a regular social gathering for older people are keen to highlight activities and services on offer, following a drop in the number of people attending.

Open House Ilkley takes place in the nostalgic settings of the Winter Garden, Station Road, from 10am each Friday.

The venture, set up last year, offers a chance for people to meet up, enjoy tea or coffee and light refreshments, and take part in activities.

It was set up to combat isolation experienced by older members of the community.

The building is to get a new heating system installed in August, following complaints of the hall being cold in winter.

An exercise class meets on the second and fourth Friday of the month, starting at 11am. Qualified trainer Colleen Barlow runs exercises suitable for people suffering from arthritis.

Last year, Age UK Bradford and District put on a Fashion Show in this iconic setting – this proved to be so successful, requests flowed in for another.

This has been arranged for Friday May 9 starting at 11am and will be showing clothes of all sorts and sizes plus jewellery and accessories.

Creative Support also set ups games with Wifi. This has proved popular with visitors and there is a wide range of games to play without the usual effort of the real thing.

Free hand massage is also available at times, another popular service.

Happy Feet hopes to start in May, offering foot care services.

Those who have supported Open House in Ilkley in the past have complained it was cold in the winter, The session will not take place tomorrow, Good Friday, and the hall will also be closed during August, when work is taking place, and in July, because of other bookings.
