Police later confirmed that the vehicle recovered from the scene was a black BMW 330.

The incident left a number of major roads in the city centre closed this morning.

Shipley Airedale Road was closed in all directions at the crossroads with Barkerend Road, not re-opening until around 8.15am.

Police had said that the closure would remain for some time due to an ongoing investigation into the incident.

Motorists were warned of major traffic delays during the morning rush-hour.

Buses were also being diverted away from the scene of the accident.

One picture taken following the collision showed the road closed with a police tent erected and a number of police vehicles in attendance.

Two other vehicles which appeared to have suffered damage - a black BMW and a light-coloured Citroen Picasso - could also be seen on the road.

The collision is being investigated by the Major Collision Enquiry Team and anyone with information is asked to contact them on 101, quoting log 2150 of November 28.
