A MAN in his 40s has died following a road accident in Bradford.

The pedestrian suffered a head injury in the accident which involved a red Toyota Yaris at the junction of Spencer Road and St Wilfrid's Crescent, Lidget Green, shortly after 8.30pm yesterday.

He received treatment at the scene but was pronounced dead a short time later.

The driver of the Yaris, a 19-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was later released on bail pending further enquiries.

A resident of St Wilfrid’s Crescent, who asked to remain anonymous, said the incident happened just as he was getting home from the gym.
He said: “The car which hit him was completely smashed, the bonnet was caved in and the windscreen had shattered, it looked like it had hit another car rather than a person.
“Something needs to be done about this road, it’s so dangerous. Only last August a young boy, about eight years old, was hit by a car on it which broke his leg and badly bruised his face, and now we have this.
“We are really concerned. People use it as a shortcut around Cemetery Road.
“There needs to be speed cameras and speed bumps put in the road.”

Councillor Tariq Hussain (Lab, Great Horton) spoke of his shock at the accident and sent his condolences to the man’s family.
He said: “It is an absolute tragedy for the family.”

Enquiries are continuing and anyone who witnessed the collision, or the movements of the vehicle or pedestrian prior to it, is asked to call the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 101, quoting crime reference 1317141314.
