A SUPERMARKET has donated three British apple trees to Thornbury Academy for them to plant and grow their own apples.

The three year old British apple tree saplings, were delivered to pupils at the primary school on Dick Lane by Morrisons Group People Director Clare Grainger, who also planted the trees with the children and gave them a few top tips.

They were delivered along with two crates of apples, so that children had a chance to taste the fruit which the trees will eventually produce.

Each traditional British apple tree will take 10 years to grow to full maturity. When mature, they will be four metres tall and will grow enough apples to feed a full class of more than 30 schools pupils at Autumn harvest time.

Clare Grainger, group people director at Morrisons said: “We hope our British apple trees will be a lovely addition to Thornbury Primary School Academy’s grounds. We hope that the children will enjoy watering, pruning and looking after them whilst they grow - and that they bear much fruit for the school pupils for many years to come.”
