THIS shocking security camera footage captures the moment two arsonists destroyed a £9,000 BMW in broad daylight directly outside a Keighley house.

The car, which belonged to 34-year-old Amjid Hussain, was parked outside the home of his sister, Thari Sultan, who said she now feels frightened to live in her own home.

She said the attack was the latest incident in a targeted campaign of criminal damage being carried out against family members' cars parked outside her house in Minnie Street, Knowle Park.

Mrs Sultan, 33, who helps her brother in his business of buying and selling cars, added the attack could have had fatal consequences.

"The petrol tank was full, so imagine what could have happened if it had exploded," she said. "Kids often play outside in this street, and both me and my husband were in the house at the time.

"I'm terrified. I feel like I can't live here anymore."

The arsonists struck at 3pm on September 26. Two men with their faces covered poured a flammable liquid into the BMW 525 M Sport's engine compartment, set light to it then fled.

Mrs Sultan said the camera footage showed them getting into a waiting car and being driven away.

"It's not the first time something like this has happened," she said. "In the past four or five years, we've had my youngest brother's car rammed into the wall, and my own car has had its windows smashed and paint stripper poured onto it."

Mr Hussain, of Halifax Road, said the damage to the BMW was so bad it has been written-off.

He explained that before it was torched, his sister had just returned with the car after showing it to a potential buyer.

"I'm most worried about the danger this attack put other people in," he said. "The car was so close to the house – only a pavement's width away. It's a back-to-back house, with only one exit, which was towards the burning car."

He and his sister also said they were unhappy with the police response. Mrs Sultan raised the alarm immediately after the incident, but officers did not arrive until about five hours later.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman responded: "We apologise if Mr Hussain and Mrs Sultan did not receive the level of service they expected on this occasion.

"While details of this call were being taken, it transpired the fire had been put out and arrangements had been made to clean up the debris. The caller also mentioned CCTV of the incident was available.

"As all officers in the area were dealing with calls at the time and there appeared to be no immediate threat to life or property, the call was noted for an officer to attend the address later that day to speak to the victim and collect the footage.

"The footage has been viewed and enquiries are continuing. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at Keighley on 101 or call 0800 555111 for Crimestoppers."
