A 38-YEAR-OLD man who died after his sports car collided with a parked lorry and smashed into trees on a moorland road near Bingley has been named by police.

Samuel Francis Edson, from Ilkley, was at the wheel of the Porshe Boxter convertible which had its roof down.

He suffered serious head injuries and died a short time after the crash.

An air ambulance, fast response vehicle, ambulance and clinical supervisor were among emergency services at the scene after the collision, just before 4pm on Friday. The crash happened on Otley Road, in High Eldwick, about half a mile from Dick Hudson's pub.

Fire crews from Shipley and Bingley also attended.

Police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the car being driven from the direction of East Morton towards Eldwick.

It collided with a Mercedes Sprinter dropside lorry that was parked and stationary in a layby. The Porsche then left the road and and came to rest in a wooded area.

It is not thought anyone else was injured during the incident.

Witnesses are asked to call the West Yorkshire Police Major Collision and Enquiry Team on 101.
