WEST Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) is searching for on-call firefighters to serve communities across the Bradford district.

New recruits are needed on a standby basis to provide daytime cover across Silsden, Ilkley and Otley, with recruitment also taking place in Mytholmroyd, Mirfield, Slaithwaite, and Featherstone.

Flexible contracts will be considered, but applicants must live or work within one mile of the fire station they are providing cover for, or be able to reach their station within five minutes of receiving an emergency call.

WYFRS has organised a series of taster sessions at its headquarters at Oakroyd Hall in Birkenshaw, so anyone seriously interested in applying can try their hand at some basic training exercises and meet current on-call firefighters to discuss their experiences.

The sessions will take place from 5pm to 9.30pm on November 17 and 19, 8.30am to 1pm on November 22, and 8.30am to 1pm and 2pm to 6.30pm on November 23.

To register, visit www.westyorksfire.gov.uk and complete the online form, which will become available on Monday.
