CHESS enthusiasts can pitch their skills against Grandmasters when the Bradford Chesstival gets under way.

The event, now in its second year, features some of the game's top players including Grandmasters Nigel Davies and Gawain Jones; International Masters Richard Palliser and Andrew Ledger and Woman International Master Sue Maroroa-Jones.

Chess coach and Bradford and District Chess Association member Winston Williams said: "It is a really good event to attract more visitors to Bradford and to showcase chess as part of the heritage because we have one of the oldest chess clubs in the country and that event took place 126 years ago."

Hundreds attended last year's inaugural event which celebrated the 125th anniversary of the Bradford Congress of 1888.

Bradford Chesstival runs from 11am until 3pm on Saturday, September 13 in City Park.
