A POLISH man who died after apparently setting himself on fire on a Bradford playing field has been identified.

Police yesterday named him as Piotr Karwasz, 30, of Hartington Terrace, Great Horton.

An inquest was opened yesterday at Bradford Coroner's Court by Assistant Coroner Mary Burke.

Police liaised with authorities in Poland to identify Mr Karwasz, who was seen engulfed in flames on playing-fields off Summerville Road, Lidget Green, at 4.30am on August 22.

Two witnesses saw the horror and raised the alarm.

He was taken by ambulance to the burns unit of Pinderfields Hospital, Wakefield, but died from his injuries later the same day.

Police say there are no suspicious circumstances.

The inquest was adjourned pending further inquiries.
