AN eight-year-old Bradford boy battling cancer for a second time has been given a boost by kind-hearted workmen, as fundraising continues for him.

Shane Edwards, of Miles Hill Crescent, Bierley, was handed a Nintendo Wii computer games console by staff from Advanced Unblock, who were doing maintenance work at his parents' house.

The firm completed the work on a blocked drain free of charge and then returned to his house on Sunday to hand over the computer system after hearing about the youngster's plight.

Shane was six when he was first diagnosed with a brain tumour in February 2012 and has since undergone a host of surgeries. The aggressive form of cancer is glioblastoma multiforme. After he suffered from headaches in July this year, it was found that the tumour had returned.

Advanced Unblock did the job at the house and instead of charging, paid the £80 fee to Shane's appeal.

Nicky Gill, co-owner of Advanced Unblock, said: "He was very happy with the Nintendo Wii. He said he wanted to get in the house as soon as he could to play on it.

"He was really excited. His family could not thank us enough.

"We did the job for free. Shane's mum told us about him and we felt sorry for him.

"It was just a good deed by us. It was a good feeling. We are a small company but we would do it again.

"For what he is going through he is good in himself.

Meanwhile, Kerry Stringer, of Wibsey, will complete a 200ft bungee jump to raise funds for Shane's appeal.

She will take the plunge at The Woodman Pub, Manchester Road on Sunday, September 7. She will also dress up as superwoman to do the fundraising feat.

Another event is a family fun day being held at The Quarry Gap pub, Dick Lane, Tyersal, on Saturday, September 13, from noon until 5pm. There will be a bouncy castle, pony rides and children's games as well as a raffle and tombola.

Anyone wanting to donate a raffle prize should contact the pub directly.

Shane's parents Tracy and Philip Edwards are now looking towards a clinical trial in London and have started an appeal to pay for the costs associated with the treatment.

The fundraising appeal now stands at more than £500 with a host of items being auctioned off.
