VINYL records, real ale...and hamis the eclectic mix offered up in new bar proposed for Bradford city centre.

The man behind the plans hopes his scheme will be approved by Bradford Council and continue the transformation of North Parade into a thriving independent quarter.

Keith Wildman, a Bradfordian who used to work in the city's wool trade before moving into public relations, has applied to turn an empty unit into The Record Cafe.

The idea came to him after this year's Record Store Day, when he realised music fans should not have to travel out of the city to go record shopping.

He has now submitted a planning application to the Council for the change of use of the former recruitment consultants into a charcuterie deli, real ale and craft beer cafe and vinyl record shop.

The venture will be supported by the Council's City Centre Growth Zone initiative, started to help bring businesses into the city.

Mr Wildman said: "I always fancied running a pub and I've always been into music. I was at Record Store Day in April and thought 'why don't we have any shops like this in Bradford?'

"I thought it might be a good idea to open a record store and cafe, and the more I thought about it the better it sounded.

"It won't be second-hand records, it will be new records and an alternative to music lovers buying things from Amazon. It would be great for people to be queing down North Parade on Record Store Day waiting for it to open.

"If everything goes through then we're hoping to open some time in November.

"I really wanted to open this business in Bradford, it is the type of business you couldn't do if the place wasn't right."

He expects the new business to create around five jobs.

The plans were drawn up by David Craig, the agent behind the recently approved Bradford Brewery and bar on Rawson Road.

The application says: "The proposals will help contribute to the emerging bar scene located on North Parade."

Despite the popularity of music downloading, records have enjoyed a resurgance in recent years. The annual Record Store Day event regularly sees thousands of music lovers flock to the country's few remaining independent record stores to pic up exclusive releases.

A decision on the application is expected in early October.

Last month the street's traders held the first North Parade Independent Street Party, which proved so popular it will is set to become an annual event.
