ANOTHER £1.2 million has been invested at Leeds Bradford Airport to improve customer services.

The improvement package includes more car parking and shuttle buses taking passengers to the front door of the terminal building.

The latest development follows the £11 million spent on improving the passenger terminal building in 2012 and part of the work was carried out by Bradford-based contractor PEC.

New car parks and 500 extra parking spaces, along with shuttle buses and a new “airport front door” service came into operation this week at the Yeadon airport. Long stay car park users are being transferred to and from the terminal in new larger buses with extra luggage space and seating.

Improvements to the terminal front layout enable the new car park shuttle buses to drive right up to the terminal front door to drop off and pick up passengers at a new bus stop, just outside the main entrance and under the terminal building canopy - the closest such service of any major UK airport.

The bus route to and from the car park has also been redesigned and shortened to provide faster and more regular services. New bus shelters with colour coded signage also help passengers to easily identify their parking zone. Also, 500 additional long stay car parking spaces have been created to meet increased demand

Inside the terminal, the departures area has been upgraded to provide more space and a new channel to security has been created with the access point separated from the check in areas to simplify the process .

John Parkin, LBA chief executive, said: “I’m delighted to announce additional investment in Leeds Bradford Airport’s facilities .This range of developments will be welcomed by our passengers, offering a more efficient service and an improved customer journey by introducing new car park buses to deliver passengers right to the terminal doors and simplifying the process to security.

“Leeds Bradford Airport has experienced record growth in recent years, it is important that we continually deliver airport improvements to accommodate that growth and provide the best experience for our passengers.”

Contracts for the latest work were awarded to PEC and architects Architek UK Ltd in Huddersfield; as part of the airport's policy of working with local businesses.
