A PAIR of 16-year-olds have become the Bradford district's youngest media moguls as their magazine has now been registered as a business.

Editor James Slater and deputy editor Megan Carson, both students at Titus Salts School in Baildon, started their free bi-monthly community magazine The Local Leader in 2012 and have since expanded their fledgling business.

They now have an office in Commercial Street in Shipley, inside Tuliptoppers Craft Shop, where they run the publication from. They released their eighth edition earlier this month.

A total of 8,000 copies of the magazine are distributed, with 5,000 of them distributed to firms in the Bradford district homes, including Bradford city centre, Shipley, Baildon and Bingley and also has an online readership of 20,000.

Each edition also features columns from MPs Gerry Sutcliffe (Lab, Bradford South) and Philip Davies (Con, Shipley).

Now, the Local Leader became a business in its own right on Monday when it was registered as a partnership with James and Megan as the joint owners.

From November 2011 to this month, Local Leader was previously run as an enterprise project run financially through Titus Salt School. All profits which have come into the project have been shared towards The Lord Mayor of Bradford’s Appeal and towards investing in future projects to start up in the future.

The Local Leader was nominated in last year's Telegraph & Argus' Bradford School Awards for the Business in Schools Awards category.

James said: "I will probably be Bradford's youngest business owner and even maybe the youngest in the UK.

"We've been doing it for two years now and eight editions.

"We have both done our GSCEs and we're going back to school in September and doing it in our spare time. We want to be getting out there a bit more with our magazine.

"The magazine started off as a school project and we did our first edition in April 2012 and it has been growing ever since.

"We will keep running it for the near future and see where it goes beyond that.

"We feature things on Bradford history and also stories on the Bradford Odeon building. "
