A TEENAGER will walk the Pennine Way to raise vital funds for the Airedale Hospital Emergency Department Appeal.

Tom Crossley, 15, sets off on Saturday to tackle the 268-mile route – linking Derbyshire and the Scottish Borders – which he aims to complete within three weeks.

He is being accompanied during different parts of the challenge by his mum, Airedale Hospital A&E consultant Dr Meg Crossley, and his grandfather, John Asher.

Tom said: "I’m hoping to raise £1,000 for the appeal to fund equipment to help make the environment more relaxing and less stressful for patients with dementia and for younger children.

“I am blogging from the walk as we go along, including photos from throughout the day. If you want to keep up to date with where we are on the route, please go to thetomcrossley.blogspot.com.”

The £100,000 appeal aims to buy resources for the new Emergency Department, which is due to open in the autumn.
