A Bradford man's "atmospheric" picture of Portsmouth harbour has seen him win a prestigious maritime photography competition.

Keith Johnston won £2,500 for his winning shot, which he took while on holiday in Hampshire with his wife.

Judges described Mr Johnston's picture as "a serene photograph with beautiful composition showing great depth of colour".

The Wish You Were Here contest, run by whisky firm Old Pulteney, sees thousands of people across the UK send in pictures of surfers, sunsets and wildlife, among other things.

Mr Johnston, a keen amateur photographer, has also won a trip for two to the Pulteney Distillery in Wick, Scotland. He said: "The news that I had won the competition came completely out of the blue. I am an amateur photographer and have never won anything before so I’m absolutely thrilled.

"The photo was taken on a beautiful night in Portsmouth and was shot using a Panasonic TZ5. I am an avid whisky fan so cannot wait to take my trip up north to visit the Pulteney Distillery with my wife, and I’m already planning a trip to Nashville to visit an old friend with my prize money."

Margaret Mary Clarke, of Old Pulteney, said: "Keith’s striking photograph really stood out with its beautiful sunset reflection and docked fishing boats floating calmly on the water, conveying a real sense of tranquility."
