A trio of local men raised £200 for a good cause by taking part in this year's 7,000 kilometre-long Great British Relay.

Paul Reynard, 39, from Oakworth, Steven Hart, also 39, of Wheathead Lane, ran a 14-mile leg of the event from Fleetwood to St Anne's, in Lancashire last month.

Mr Reynard was also called in at the last minute to run the final leg of the coastal route from Cayton to Scarborough Marina on July 2, after another runner had to drop out. Also taking part in the final stage was Haworth man Adrian Thomas, 42.

Describing the Fleetwood to St Anne's stage, Mr Reynard said: "It was quite hot so it was a bit of a struggle, but it still went very well. It was brilliant to be able to take part."

The relay began on June 1 and ran continuously for 24 hours each day for the next 31 days. Each runner carried a specially designed GPS-enabled baton along their own stage of the route, which they handed over to the next runner at the end of their leg. The entire course ran right around the coasts of England, Scotland and Wales.

Individuals taking part were sponsored to collect cash for a variety of different charities.

Mr Reynard said the cash raised by himself and his fellow local runners would go towards the Callum Ingham appeal. Eight-year-old Callum, of Parkwood Rise, Keighley, has an aggressive form of childhood cancer that may need costly treatment abroad.
