A man who punched another man at a wedding reception was given a suspended prison sentence.

Craig Brown, 41, punched Neil Jones at least twice, after the complainant left the Bradford city centre hotel where the event had taken place to hail a taxi.

Prosecutor Robert Galley told Bradford Crown Court yesterday that after the assault Mr Jones appeared to be unconscious, his nose was fractured and there was an element of permanent disfigurement.

Mr Galley said the hostility was based on sexual orientation and another man seemed to be directing the defendant towards the complainant.

Judge Jonathan Durham Hall said it seemed Brown had been exploited by others and he had a tendency to lose the plot in drink.

The judge added: "There was an element of rather stupid prejudice against somebody for his lifestyle choices."

Brown, of Joseph Street, Tong, Bradford, who admitted assault, was given a ten-month prison sentence suspended for 12 months, with 150 hours unpaid community work and ordered to pay £500 compensation.
