ARTS AND CRAFTS: try your hand at mask making at this year’s Bradford Festival

Creative workshops and activities can be enjoyed at next month’s Bradford Festival.

Many of the workshops and activities will be run by local artists and performers who received special grants from Bradford Council.

Organisers will create a dedicated activities and workshop zone, made up of eight marquees and three yurts – special Mongolian tents – installed in Norfolk Gardens.

The festival’s activities span craft making, calligraphy, printing, mask making, building art installations, dressing up and posing for photographs, and interactive theatre and dance experiences.

There will even be an opportunity for women to learn some boxing moves.

Former national champion Ambreen Sadiq will be running female boxing taster workshops as part of Common Wealth Theatre’s performance of No Guts, No Heart, No Glory, an innovative play about young female Muslim boxers.

In Green Garden people will be able to weave giant flowers and sculpt trees, plants, habitats and wildlife for a fantastic art installation made from recycled materials.

Bradford-based environmental co-operative Re-considered will create exciting new design solutions out of recycled materials.

The adventurous can experience a dramatic naming ceremony rooted in Asian and black heritage in TRIBE by local theatre company, Tribal Arts.

There will also be an opportunity to dress up and be photographed as a cycling champion in Put You in le Picture & Put You in le Saddle by photographer Tim Curtis and Pennine Cycles.

Vanessa Mitchell, major events programme manager, said: “This year’s Bradford Festival is going to be the best ever. There will be lots of opportunities for people to take part in a range of workshops and activities, all of which are free.”

Bradford Festival is at City Park from June 13 to 15.
