A road in the centre of Cleckheaton was closed from lunchtime until early evening following a collision between a car and a pedestrian which left a pensioner in hospital.

West Yorkshire Police said the collision, which happened at lunchtime yesterday in Westgate involved a female aged 67.

She was in collision with a grey Ford Focus car as she was trying to cross the road, close to the post office branch.

Following the collision she was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. Her condition is not understood to be life-threatening.

However, police sealed off the road to allow an investigation to take place and the car remained at the location during the afternoon. It appeared to have sustained light damage.

West Yorkshire Police removed their cordons at around 7 pm and thanked those using the area for their patience.

Now the force is appealing for any witnesses to the incident to contact them. Police can be contacted by telephone using the 101 non-emergency number.
