More than 200 applicants have bid for £150,000 being offered in a community fund launched by West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Mark Burns-Williamson.

The Safer Communities Fund sees money seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act fed in to a single pot of cash for community safety initiatives. Local organisations and groups submit applications of up to £10,000.

In the first round there have been 240 applications for £1.5million worth of bids for good causes.

Mr Burns-Williamson said there is “incredible demand for funding to pay for community projects.”
