Neighbours of a bungalow which was brought by a Bradford councillor say they feel neglected by his broken promises that it would be repaired and be lived in by the end of last year.

The property in King’s Road, Wrose, was bought by Bradford Council using a Compulsory Purchase Order after its previous owner was admitted to hospital.

The local authority then sold it to Councillor Ishtiaq Ahmed in December 2012 and stipulated it be brought back into use within a year.

But the lack of visible work, a tangle of high weeds and shuttered windows led neighbours to complain.

Jane Cranston-Young, whose 86-year-old father George Young lives in the adjoining bungalow, said she was still frustrated by the lack of progress Last October Mrs Cranston-Young, her father and his neighbours, Astrid and Alan Pargeter, told how a broken fence panel was leading to abusive youths using the back garden as a cut-through.

And in January there were more complaints the deadline had not been met.

Mrs Cranston-Young said: “Nobody seems to want to do anything. My dad’s just absolutely fed-up with it. He said it’s just not fair. It’s going on and on.

“It’s not been a workforce, just one single man and nobody’s been near for about six weeks.”

She said that rubbish was also piling up outside.

“I just feel they [the Council] are not bothered.”

Mrs Cranston-Young said windows had now been fitted, which made the home look better, but the drive was still piled high with bin bags.

In January, Coun Ahmed (Bradford Independent Group, Manningham) said the bungalow would be occupied by mid-January and work had fallen behind due to illness and there were just “bits and bats” to complete.

Coun Ahmed was unavailable for comment, but a workman was at the bungalow yesterday and said he expected work to be completed within ten days.

Mike Cowlam, interim strategic director for planning, transport and highways, said: “The Council is in regular contact with the owner to ensure that progress continues to be made at the property and will use its enforcement powers as appropriate in order to deal with any rubbish that is accumulating at the property.”
