Two butchers were shortlisted in a national competition to find the country’s best pork pie.
B and M Collins, of Cleckheaton, and Middlemiss Butchers, of Otley, each made the top ten in the Traditional class at The Pork Pie Appreciation Society’s 22nd Charity Pork Pie Competition at the Old Bridge Inn, Ripponden, on Saturday.
The contest, with guest judge artist Ashley Jackson, was keenly fought, said Peter Charnley, secretary of the Pork Pie Appreciation Society. The ‘blind’ tasting competition was open to all butchers and bakers who make their own pies, and entries were received from as far afield as Devon. Members of the public were able to judge the pies on appearance, and the nearest to the judges’ results won a cash prize.
