Patients are being asked to talk about their experiences of a health body as part of a milestone watchdog inspection.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) will visit Bradford District Care Trust, which provides mental health, specialist learning disability services and community health services, during the week of June 16.

As part of the check-up Healthwatch Bradford and District is asking people to share feedback, good or bad, about the Trust, which also runs inpatient services at Lynfield Mount Hospital and Airedale Centre for Mental Health.

The inspection is the first of its kind for the Trust. The focus will be different from previous CQC inspections because the watchdog has taken on board some recommendations from national reports, including the Francis Report after the public inquiry into Mid-Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust.

Medical Director Dr Andy McElligott said: “We welcome the inspection by the CQC and anticipate a positive outcome.

“Although we already receive regular inspections of our in-patient facilities, this time the CQC will look at the whole range of our services, including those we provide in the community.

“This is an important milestone for the Trust as it marks the next step towards securing Foundation Trust status and will provide an overall assessment of the quality of our services.”

The CQC has asked Healthwatch to share its feedback ahead of the inspection, which will help inspectors decide which area of the Trust to focus on as they look into if it is safe, effective, caring, responsive to people’s needs and well-led.

Dr McElligott added: “It is likely that a number of events will be held to give local people an opportunity to share their experiences of our services. I would strongly encourage people who want to share their thoughts with the CQC to register their interest with Healthwatch Bradford and District.”
