Lord Mayor signs up for charity to abseil down hotel for Crocus Appeal fundraising week

Jenny Watkinson and Victoria Collins from Bradford University join Jury’s Inn operations manager Mark Bussey and staff, ahead of the Crocus Week abseil
A rallying call for volunteers with a head for heights has been answered by the Lord Mayor of Bradford.
Last month the Telegraph & Argus appealed for volunteers to get behind Crocus Week and support our bid to raise £1 million to buy a piece of hi-tech equipment which could speed up finding treatments for cancer.
The special week is part of the Telegraph & Argus Bradford Crocus Cancer Appeal, which is being run by the University of Bradford, Yorkshire Cancer Research, Sovereign Health Care Charitable Trust and the T&A.
Between May 10 and 18 we’re encouraging people to think creatively and plan an appeal fundraiser – and we’re kicking off with an abseil down the side of Jury’s Inn Hotel.
We’re looking for 80 volunteers to take part and join T&A staff and the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Khadim Hussain.
He said: “I am excited to take part in the abseil and hope to raise awareness of the Crocus Appeal and what it is trying to achieve.”
The abseil will be on Saturday, May 10, between 11.30am and 6pm at Jury’s Inn, Bradford. Registration is £10 with a minimum sponsorship of £100.
Other events happening in the week include University staff taking part in a wear it purple day, cake sales, schools getting involved with fundraising activities and businesses donating a percentage of their takings.
SCHOOLS URGED TO JOIN CROCUS FUNDRAISING FUN
Schools are being encouraged to plan a fun fundraiser for Crocus Week. Whether it’s a bake sale, fancy dress day or sponsored silence, we’re keen to get children involved in our appeal efforts.
Schools signing-up for Crocus Week will be entered into a draw to win up to £500 of book vouchers.
To sign-up your school, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or call (01274) 233165.
