Members of Bradford’s Polish community have laid a wreath (above) in commemoration of the 74th anniversary of the Katyn Massacres. The wreath-laying took place at the Katyn memorial outside Bradford’s Polish Church, followed by a ceremony marking the anniversary. The massacre of Polish nationals in the Second World War was carried out on Stalin’s orders in the spring of 1940. An estimated 22,000 Polish prisoners of war were executed in the Katyn Forest in Russia.

The wreath-laying, organised by the Polish Veterans’ Association, was attended by 102-year-old Stanislaw Stepien, the oldest Polish ex-serviceman in Bradford.
