A bid to turn the former home of an illegal bazaar into indoor football pitches looks set to be successful.

The former Shires Bathroom site in Beckside Road, Lidget Green, had been home to the Tradex Bazaar, which was run without permission.

Now Shahid Ali has applied to change the use of part of the building to allow five pitches to be created there.

The application will be determined at the Bradford Planning Panel on Tuesday.

A report to the meeting states the proposal is acceptable “given most of the building will remain in employment use and there is little demonstrated demand for employment land in this areas of the district.

“No significant implications are foreseen in terms of residential amenity or visual impact and with the adequate levels of parking provision and proposed traffic management scheme there are not considered to be any significant highway safety implications.”

From 2011 the building housed the bazaar and applications were made for retail use. One was withdrawn, a second refused in 2012, and an appeal dismissed last year.

Despite being issued with stop notices by the Council, father and son Mohammed and Khalid Saeed continued to operate the market arguing that their business was for tradespeople only.

The pair were found guilty in May of contravening the two stop notices issued.

Businessman Mohammed Saeed was fined £50,000 and ordered him to pay the prosecution costs of £38,635. His son Khalid Saeed, who managed the market, was fined £4,000.

Mohammed Saeed is now expected to be given a temporary market licence for a new Asian bazaar at the former QLM building in Idle Road, Bolton.

It had been due to be issued in February, but some pre-conditions must be met first. Once issued, It will be reviewed in six months’ time.
