Saltaire firm helps students learn about architecture

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: Director Linda Hollings Director Linda Hollings

A Saltaire-based company has opened its doors to inspire the future generation of architects.

Rance Booth Smith Arcitects invited pupils at Grange Technology College, Beckfoot School and Tong High School to learn how the design process works and were shows drawings, computer images and 3D models.

The students, aged between 15 and 18, found out about careers in architecture and related disciplines as well as sustainable design and how to achieve an energy saving building.

After hearing about a ‘week in the life’ of one of the Rance Booth Smith architects, they were shown Computer Aided Design and how it is used in architecture today. They were also spoken to Hannah Cawthorne, an architecture student working in the practice.

Director Linda Hollings said: “Some of the students were looking for a career in architecture whereas others were wanting to find out more about the role. The visit stimulated some interesting questions and the students left enthused.”
