A street robber who breached a suspended jail sentence by going back to Poland to nurse his dying grandmother has been given another chance to complete an unpaid work order.

Grzegorz Grabowski, 27, returned to his homeland to care for his only relative, who had now died, Bradford Crown Court heard.

On his return to the UK he was arrested and held in custody until yesterday’s court hearing.

He admitted failing to turn up for unpaid work on four occasions, between March 13 and May 3 last year.

Grabowski, of St Paul’s Road, Manningham, Bradford, robbed fellow Pole Konrad Rzeszotek of £4 in November 2012.

Mr Rzeszotek ran in fear into rush-hour traffic on Manningham Lane after Grabowski punched him.

In March last year, Grabowski was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, with 200 hours of unpaid work, and ordered to pay £250 compensation.
