Pupils at Tong High School in Bradford have been rewarded for raising more than £3,000 for charity with only a £1 investment.

The school took part in the Micro-Tyco challenge mentored by staff from the Leeds office of financial company Deloitte.

Through raffles and other fundraising events the school’s Micro-Tyco team – made up of 26 students and six staff – raised £3,657 in only four weeks. It was enough to ensure they won the schools category, and they were presented with their award last week.

The money will go towards the Wildhearts charity, which funds micro businesses in the developing world.

Head teacher Steve Curran said: “The students worked extremely hard on the enterprise project and this opportunity has enabled them to practise and learn fundamental business concepts. During this process students have been inspired to learn and have developed their entrepreneurial thinking.”
