Children at Riddlesden St Mary’s Primary School are getting on their bikes – and scooters – and loving it!
Emily Groves, Sustrans’ Bike It officer for the district, has been working with the pupils.
And youngsters at the Keighley school took part in the charity’s hugely successful Big Pedal initiative last month, when points were awarded for the number of pupils travelling to and from school by bike or scooter.
Jan Hesselwood, a senior teacher at the school, said: “Emily is spending six days in school. She has spoken about cycling and helped the children to learn to ride bikes, but there have been lots of other related activities as well.
“We had an ‘adopt a bike’ day when pupils could get their bikes repaired for free, bike maths and even a day of skipping with inner tubes!
“All the pupils have been involved and really enjoyed it, and we have seen an increase in the number of children cycling and scooting.”
