Group steps up Keighley Fairtrade campaign
8:00am Saturday 5th April 2014 in News
World Fairtrade Day will be celebrated in Keighley’s Airedale Shopping Centre.
Members of the town’s Fairtrade group discussed plans for the event at their latest meeting.
Ethically sourced products will be on display in the shopping centre from 10am to 3pm on Saturday, May 10.
Richard Dillon, chairman of Fairtrade Keighley, said: “It’s about helping producers in the developing world get a fair return for their labours, which they can then invest in their own communities.
"We’ll have a market selling Fairtrade produce, and hopefully local artists and face painting.”
He said the event should give people a chance to see a smoothie-making bike in action. The pedal-powered contraption enables people to get some exercise while simultaneously creating a healthy drink.
Mr Dillon said he and his colleagues were keen to get a range of local community organisations involved in the Fairtrade movement, and were reaching out to churches, schools, businesses and Keighley’s Emily Street Mosque.
