Police out in force for large-scale operation
Police have seized 17 vehicles and made 14 arrests in the first few days of action by officers targeting criminals who use the county’s roads.
Forming part of Operation Viper – a major offensive by West Yorkshire Police to tackle the county’s most prolific criminals – the latest sweep saw every vehicle with police insignia deployed to target burglars and travelling criminals.
During the first day of last week’s operation, which ran from 2pm on Thursday to 6am on Friday, 158 people were stop checked by officers with 137 vehicles having their details checked against police systems.
There were 14 people arrested over the course of the operation for a variety of offences including burglary, going equipped to burgle, theft and drug related offences. A stolen car was also recovered.
